Job Overview:
We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Catering Assistant / Kitchen Helper (Küchenhilfe) to join our kitchen team. In this role, you will support the kitchen staff with food preparation, cleaning, and maintaining the kitchen environment. The ideal candidate will have basic experience in food preparation or kitchen work, a good understanding of hygiene and safety standards, and the physical stamina to thrive in a fast-paced environment. German language proficiency (A2-B1 level) is required to ensure clear communication with the team. Flexibility with working hours is important, as you may need to work evenings, weekends, or holidays.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of ingredients for cooking, including washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning food items.
- Help in the cleaning and maintenance of kitchen tools, utensils, and cooking equipment.
- Ensure that kitchen surfaces, floors, and storage areas are kept clean and organized at all times.
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, and utensils, ensuring they are properly sanitized and ready for use.
- Maintain proper storage and labeling of food products to ensure compliance with food safety standards.
- Assist with the unloading and storage of deliveries, organizing food supplies in the appropriate areas.
- Support chefs and kitchen staff with various tasks, such as setting up for service, plating food, or running orders.
- Follow health and safety guidelines, including handling food with proper hygiene and ensuring kitchen safety.
- Assist in managing food waste by following portion control practices and disposing of waste appropriately.
- Be proactive in maintaining a clean and orderly kitchen environment throughout the day.
- Follow instructions from the head chef, kitchen supervisors, or other senior kitchen staff.
- Perform other kitchen-related duties as assigned by the kitchen team.
Qualifications:
- Basic experience in food preparation or kitchen work, either in a commercial or home setting.
- Understanding of hygiene and safety standards in a kitchen environment (e.g., HACCP guidelines).
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods and perform manual tasks such as lifting, cleaning, and food preparation.
- German language proficiency (A2–B1 level) to communicate effectively with the kitchen team.
- Reliable and punctual, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
- Ability to follow instructions and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
